At the McWane Family of Companies, we cast ductile iron products — including pipe, valves, hydrants, fittings, and plumbing products — manufacture fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, steel pressure vessels, and build network switches and monitoring equipment.
The company conducts business throughout North America and the world. Its major plants by industry include four pipe facilities, four valve and hydrant facilities, seven soil pipe and utility fittings facilities, seven tank manufacturing facilities, one fire extinguisher facility and five technology companies.
Through the years, many companies in the waterworks industry have moved their manufacturing operations overseas at the expense of American jobs. They seek to avoid the high environmental and workplace health and safety standards required in the United States. McWane, however, has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to modernize its plants and become the industry’s leader in cutting-edge technology. Headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., we’ve made our operations safe, efficient and compliant while preserving thousands of well-paying American jobs across the country.
Our foundries produce products that deliver pure water and last for generations. Since 1921, McWane’s ductile iron products have safely delivered clean water to countries across the world. When properly installed, ductile iron pipe can last for more than a century, reducing energy consumption and costs during its long, useful life.
In 2012, McWane began their diversification strategy by adding technology companies to their portfolio.
This idea of sustainability is one that McWane supports on a daily basis. Our products are made from post-consumer materials and are recyclable at the end of their useful life. In fact, we recycle more than 750,000 tons of scrap iron each year, which is equal to 800,000 cars. That’s efficiency for today and sustainability for tomorrow.
McWane’s role as one of the world’s most important suppliers of waterworks and monitoring products is based on the fulfillment of our responsibilities to our employees, our communities and our customers. We pledge to continue to improve team member safety, keep our communities clean and produce high-quality products for the cities and towns that use them.
Today, under the leadership of Chairman Phillip McWane, our company remains dedicated to its long tradition of safely manufacturing strong and durable products that provide long-lasting and essential infrastructures for communities around the world.
